In case you missed the story earlier, Louisville guard Preston Knowles has been accused of punching the father of his girlfriend. The pictures above show the after effects of the punches, and it doesnt look good. According to reports, Preston got into a disagreement with his girlfriend about (I am not making this up) a hairbrush and then punches flew when the stepfather got involved. Knowles says he was acting in self-defense, but either way, the situation is not good.

It also says 'two of the giants that have shaped hip-hop culture, and well, American Culture, have come together'. Think about that for a minute. Dre ignited gangsta rap into a whole nother stratosphere. Period. He brought a whole new 'culture', the Westside, to the forefront. Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent. That alone is Hall of Fame stats man. Set Death Row which remains the blueprint and envision for EVERY label after and since. Bad Boy, Ruff Ryders, No Limit, Cash Money, Roc-A-Fella. Which brings me to Jay-Z.

There's no doubt Jay-Z has changed the game and took it o another level as well. From his music, his business, to his fashion, come on man, nobody has moved it like this. He's the rapper we're all trying to catch up to. Dude's been to the White House. Jay honestly represents the new hope in a lot of ways.

I love LA. Have I said that before!? The trip was amazing and it was great to be back on the West Coast seeing old friends and family. Chilled w my big bro and his family, beautiful niece and nephew and wife. Got to see my cousin too. Aw man we're all getting older! We're not back at Big Mom's house in Gary, Indiana no more are we?

Its all love though. Of course handling JBX biz as well which I'll pick up on a bit later. San Fran was awesome too. That was my first trip to that city and man, it was like a West Coast NYC. Thats all I kept thinking. Got some pics to post. I'll do that soon.

In the meantime I'll be back on again on a regular pace.

I Forgot: The Game's Documentary

So yeah I'm gong through old CD stash and come across a classic. The Game's 2005 Documentary. Yes I said classic. Because of everything thats gone down for the Game you almost forget him. Being dropped from G Unit, Aftermath and everything else that happened, the drama overshadows what dude has done in the game but for the sake of this I just wanna focus on the Documentary.

For me, the biggest thing that got me was what Game meant for the 'Westside'! the westcoast had stayed so quiet in a lot of ways since '96. The East had giants, and the South had taken over music. Being raised off of the West and living there for a bit, seeing how they took over the game, can you imagine when I saw this pic.......... Bringing all the westcoast stylings (drop tops, palm trees, etc.) and everything else the Game and Dre knew what they were doing from a marketing standpoint. Identifying the sense of pride.

Imagery killed it. I can on and on about just that aspect but pictures only take you so far. The tracks? Killer. Producers, Dre, Kanye, Timberland, Just Blaze, Cool and Dre and others, Game sounds like a kid in a candy shop showing off his range. Showing that lyrical prowness that the East coast loves "the next Hova from the land of the best dosha, making all that racket (racquet) I got the US Open", and also dripping with respect for the elders in the game, Game kills this album. Of course you cannot discount 50Cent who is hands down one the best hip-hop/pop songwriters of all time. But we'll keep the details for others.

Essentially it comes down to this. The Game draped himself in the westcoast flag that hasn't been held as high since Pac, had Dr. Dre, other legendary producers, and dont sleep, dude can rap. Putting that all together. Classic.

Anyway. Go back and download this album. Mine was scratched. So much more to say about this album but I'll let the music do the talking.

Yo why the hold up on updates? Well, when you've spent the last couple weeks starting your own business (media firm Visual Space), one bandmate getting married, and finishing four videos, including editing duties....whew! So whats new? Well the videos are almost done and the all the music is done. Well......sort of. You see, we said we were done and then I met an old friend, got inspired, Josh came over and laid guitar and boom, new song! Dammit!

So the website is undergoing some construction now. Should be done by the time the videos are. Got the old band back in the mix practicing the new material.

In this life we lead I'm getting so disgusted. The video attached is hard to watch. I can only watch this once. It hurts too much to see this. Young honor student gets beaten with 4X4's in the middle of the street. People all around and nobody stops this!? I can't talk. What would I do? I was always taught walk the other way of the commotion but damn how can you just kill someone who hasn't hurt you and leave him in the streets? This is a human being not a dog. But this happens in some communities everyday then you wonder why the twisted faces about Vick. Neither here nor there though.

I'll be posting a note on my Facebook that, as usual, will go into greater detail, but I had to post.
We're at such a pivotal moment in our country. I don't want to go into this much but this only highlights what I'm speaking of. The President of the United States is the President of the United States. You may not like him but you have to respect the office. Now catch this. When Bush was still in office, I may have disagreed with a policy or two but there was respect for the office. Now here's my point.

President Obama wants to give a speech to students beginning the school year to give them simple advice. At the heart of the speech. Work hard and be responsible. An excerpt:

"At the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world, And none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities."
Doesn't sound like a socialist speech to me.
Another bit:
"I expect great things from each of you. "So don't let us down — don't let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it."
It actually sounds like a conservative speech to me, which by the way most of the country is, but conservatives don't know how to market conservatism.

But because of the political climate, there are people that want their children not to watch this speech and leave classes. Some won't watch it all together. This is a truly sad day in America, when the most powerful individual and leader of the Free World cannot get the benefit of the doubt and speak to young people when the future lies with them. (Please don't inject racism into this equation because it is not).

My larger point is this though and here it gets tricky. Democrats should've learned during the Bush admin that one day the shoe would be on the other foot. Maybe Republicans can learn that lesson. There is a time and place for healthy skepticism of our government. The President speaking to young people about self responsibility is not one of them.

The Curious Case of the Dead Squirrel

So this is no joke. I'm just arriving to the house after work. Feeling pretty good and what not. Go to the trunk, get some clothes out and then BAM!!!! What do I see? A dead squirrel on the back of my trunk? WTF!??! I know, I know. First question how did it get there? Was it when I left downtown? Did it just happen when I parked my car? But wouldn't I have heard a thump? I kid you not the squirrel was just laying there on its back dead. I always wondered if squirrels die? Or why we don't see more birds just drop from the sky, dead. This is a true story and of course I've got pictures to prove it!

Ask anyone that knows me and they’ll all tell you the same: I’ve been calling for Rick Pitino to lose his job for years. As a graduate of the University of Louisville, I have always felt that he didn’t represent our university in the greatest light. And honestly, I don’t think he’s great at the X’s and O’s that cause his teams to stumble short every post-season. However, I am rather disturbed by people’s reactions to his latest shenanigans.

We’ve all heard the story: Pitino, a married man and devout Catholic, was hard-up and got some stank from a woman that wasn’t his wife (according to her and some others, it was actually a raping, but I’m not going there unless he’s found guilty of such actions). Then a few weeks later she comes to him needing money for an abortion, or “medical bills” according to him, which means abortion.

Talk about a whirlwind of media frenzy. A nationally iconic coach with several Final Four trips, a National Championship, NBA coaching experience and arguably one of the game’s five biggest “rock stars” is now on a slippery slope to career suicide. My only question is…Why?

Why are people so surprised by this story? We not only treat our athletes like Pagan Gods that can do no wrong, but as a culture we have also begun to treat our coaches the same way. We give them more money, more power, more access to the “good life” that so many seek and then act surprised when they take advantage of that power.

Rick Pitino is a God in Bluegrass country, whether it be for the Blue side or the Red side. He is a living legend that brought UK back out of obscurity in the 90’s and UofL to its first Final Four appearance since the 80’s. He’s been placed on a pedestal by the people of this state, whether deserved or not. So why are we so surprised by his actions?

Get off your high-horses, people! When you sleep with dogs you gon’ get fleas, it’s as simple as that. When you let a man with millions of dollars, fawning young and old women, and men that want to be him or around him OWN THE TOWN, eventually he’s going to make some bad decisions. And that’s what Pitino did. He made a bad decision, but let’s not act like YOU aren’t doing the same things. His dirty laundry’s just out on the porch for everyone to see.

Just because you have the power to resist the fat woman in the cubicle next to you, or because you decided to marry your college sweetheart that you knocked up, that doesn’t make you morally superior to this man! Honestly, it just makes you an asshole. Pitino gets more Miley Cyrus and “cougar” stank thrown at him than you could imagine, so before throwing him off the ship, ask yourself what you’d do if every who-er in the state with open legs was throwing it your way everyday!

Now, I’m not saying what he did was right, but who in the hell am I, or anyone else for that matter, to judge. I don’t know what’s going on in his life. But I do know that if everyone in town were already “blowing” me for merely being in this city, I’d probably expect a lady or two or three to start blowing me too, literally. Just saying.

Before we chastise Pitino for his indiscretions, remember that YOU may have MORALS, but that doesn’t mean that the people around you have to. And yes, I know he’s a coach and “teaching young men how to be responsible so he should do it himself” but open your eyes, moron, it’s not about coaching, teaching, honor, etc. anymore, it’s about the CREAM and championships now (which lead to CREAM for the university and the entire conference! Cha-Ching)

So, I could give you million reasons why Pitino should lose his job, but this sure ain’t one of them. Lord knows Urban Meyer, John Calipari, or any of the other countless “rock star” coaches are getting their stank on the side too. They’re just smart enough not to do it in the back of a restaurant!!

A new post. More info from the album Searching for Kivvi. JBX and Lotus (Paris, Fr.) have just released a short teaser to a new song from Kivvi, called Want You. I am very excited about it. Its this mix of electronic with urban rock and it sizzles. Jenna Dean laying his alter trip vocals over souls keys until the pulse of techno drums echo as Jenna goes into a rap flow half in French half in English. WTF?!!? SICK!

Capping it is Bodhi Smooth creeping along with the beat in his new patent flow picking up where Touch left off. When he finally hits the track he gives you what you've been wanting. The track snippet ends before LRDZOWN is on but now the vision of Searching for Kivvi is coming into sight.

Though he is dead his music will live on and it will continue to influence the JBX. Without a doubt MJ's musical imprint can be found all over our music. When you listen to Blown you can't help but to hear sounds from Off the Wall. When you hear Touch the Thriller album is a touchstone for us. When we finish Searching for Kivvi I believe this will become even more apparent.

I used to spend my summers and winter breaks in Gary Indiana where my family is from and you can't help but feel a kinship with Michael. Even as the city continued to go down in economic turmoil, Michael remained a bright spot that you could point to.

You will be missed Michael.

Yo it's Dean. Im working on the website right now and Im digging it. If you go to it now you can see a bit. Its got a new layout but thats temp. Behind it I'm working on streamlining things so its easier access for people to get what they want. Im hoping to be done this week.

Finally we have something new to update on Jamili Brown who has been laying extra low the last couple of months. At last we have these two pictures that Jenna Dean, posted to me. They wont say much about the new music, but Dean has 'slipped' and said 'techno, next level. MJ and M5. Next level of urban rock.'

What that means we can only speculate.
